Sport injuries result from acute trauma or even repetitive strain associated with physical activities. They can affect soft tissue, such as muscles, ligaments and tendons or they can involve trauma to the bones. Low level laser therapy - laser photothrapy - is very effective in the treatment of many common types of activity related soft tissue and joints trauma injuries. Low level lasers - cold lasers - phototherapy lasers - such as PalmLaser phototherapy laser - are, therefore, routinely used by professional athletes, their therapists and by therapists at sports clubs to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, speed up healing, accelerate tissue regeneration, minimise scar tissue formation and considerably shorten recovery time. Laser phototherapy accelerates healing, thus often preventing drop outs from athletic competitions or loss of valuable training time.

Dr Rareck of Schalke FC.Modern phototherapy lasers like PalmLaser, PalmLaser Pro and Silklite make phototherapy with phototherapy lasers easy to apply and accessible to professionals such as doctors and physiotherapists as well as to private individuals without special professional training. Phototherapy laser PalmLaser, PalmLaser Pro and Silklite are affordable home and clinic phototherapy lasers that everyone can use effectively and safely.

During the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, PalmLaser phototherapy laser was used very successfully by doctors and therapists treating sports injuries sustained by acclaimed athletes, such as the medalist runner Frankie Fredericks, the bronze medalist pole vaulter Giuseppe Gibilisco and the famous Decathlon gold medalist Erki Nool. Since summer 2004, PalmLaser is used very successfully as a routine treatment modality and as an adjunct therapy to all other medical and physiotherapy procedures by the doctors, therapists and players at the famous German Football Club, FC Schalke 04.

Laser Phototherapy applications in the management of Acute and Chronic Sports and Activity Related Injuries

For centuries, light has been recognised for its healing and stimulating effects. Low level laser therapy - therapy based on a form of concentrated biostimulating light - has been researched and developed in more recent years. Biostimulation is simply a process in which the light energises cells and accelerates tissue repair by activation of metabolic and healing processes. Low level laser therapy - also referred to as LLLT or cold laser therapy or most recently as laser phototherapy - is based on a delivery of cold red and/or infra red laser light over or into the injured tissues through the skin and underlying tissue layers. Low level laser light or cold laser light does not have thermal effects and does not heat up the treated tissues - low level laser light is cold and penetrates living tissues without causing any trauma, cellular damage, pain or side effects. Low level lasers/ cold lasers / laser phototherapy devices are entirely non invasive! Low level lasers - laser phototherapy devices - cold lasers - soft lasers - operate at much lower energy levels than invasive surgical lasers capable of cutting through the tissues. Surgical lasers have high energy outputs ranging between 3000 and 10000 mW, whilst many commonly used 'clinic and home use' cold medical lasers operate at outputs around 100 mW.

Treatments with LLLT devices/cold lasers/ laser phototherapy devices are safe, effective, painless, free of side effects and entirely non-invasive. LLLT - low level laser therapy - is highly effective in relieving acute and chronic pain and inflammation as well as in acceleration of wound healing, tissue repair and regeneration. Laser phototherapy is well researched with over 2000 reports and over 100 double blind published studies.  For more detailed information about the LLLT, we recommend a book from Prima Books, entitled Laser Therapy Handbook by Jan Tuner and Lars Hode.

In recent times, much attention is given to the effects of physical activities and regular exercise on lifelong fitness and quality of life. To maintain good health for life, people need to eat healthy food, lose weight and exercise more! Taking at least 10 000 steps a day is said to improve our fitness and help to prevent debilitating and life threatening diseases. More and more people undertake daily activities, such as walking, cycling, running or jogging and participate regularly in a variety of games or sports, ranging from gymnastics, fitness training, tennis, football or water sports to skating, skiing and many other outdoor or indoor sporting initiatives.

Physical activities and participation in sports make people healthier and fitter. However, they also increase the risks of activity related injuries. Similarly, professional athletes are also at increased risk of sustaining sports injuries. Main goals of post traumatic events after injuries or when recurrent post injury pain occurs are to ensure pain relief and fast recoveries that enable the athletes return to normal daily activities or to training and competing speedily. Laser phototherapy is perfect for both acute and chronic problems arising during activities and sports.

Treating back with PalmLaser.Sport injuries result from acute trauma or even repetitive strain associated with physical activities. They can affect soft tissue, such as muscles, ligaments and tendons or they can involve trauma to the bones. Adults as well as children can suffer sports or activity related injuries, seriousness of which can range from minor soft tissue traumas, bruises, sprains and strains to disabling, debilitating and even life threatening conditions, such as major skeletal fractures or severe brain injuries.

PalmLaser Phototherapy Laser

PalmLaser is a technologically advanced powerful non-invasive therapeutic biostimulation cold laser that combines the effects of red (650 nm) and infrared (785 nm) therapy in one easy to use portable unit. PalmLaser operates on 100 mW power output.

PalmLaser incorporates two lasers - red and infrared - that provide optimal penetration of tissues for the best therapeutic effects and healing of superficial injuries and shallow traumas as well as on deeply located problems (i.e. superficial open wounds, skin lesions, lacerations, bruises, deep haematomas, sprains, strains, small fractures and periosteal inflammation). The red laser light penetrates the tissues up to 10 mm depth, whilst the infrared laser light reaches as deep as 60 mm, thus reaching deep muscles, ligaments and joints.

Self treating knee with PalmLaser.PalmLaser utilises cellular regeneration processes and healing effects of LLLT (low level laser therapy also known as laser phototherapy, low level laser light therapy and/or cold laser therapy) to combat pain without taking medications, facilitate and accelerate wound healing, improve blood flow, reduce inflammation and stimulate collagen regeneration.

PalmLaser is suitable for use by professional therapists at clinic as well as by people without professional medical qualifications. PalmLaser is easy to use and safe even without eye protective goggles. Treatments can be carried out by therapists or by the injured people themselves - simply follow the treatment guidelines and instructions described in the User Manual.
