Hill-Rom Self Inflating Mattress Overlay - simplicity and effectiveness for pressure ulcer prevention
Hill-Rom NP140
Hill-Rom NP140 Overlay offers a unique combination of air and foam. The viscoelastic foam combined with high-resilient foam enables the person to sink into the surface of the overlay, thus achieving high redistribution of body weight with overall reduced interface pressure. Reduced interface pressure ensures effective pressure relief and high levels of comfort.

About Pressure Sores
Pressure ulcers are chronic wounds that are very difficult to heal and, if not successfully treated, pressure sores can also ultimately affect underlying muscles, bones and joints. Pressure sores - also known as decubitus ulcers or bedsores - occur in people, who are immobile or bedridden and left sitting or lying in one position for long periods of time.
The areas most susceptible to pressure sore formation are the areas of the bony prominences not well padded by muscles or fatty tissues, such as hips, heels, back of shoulders (i.e. on scapula), tailbone and the back of head.
Pressure sores develop from small skin irritations into serious skin lesions, rapidly evolving into non-healing painful wounds prone to infection. Pressure sores arise from a combined effect of the body weight pressure exerted on the surface of the skin that leads to the tissue damage due to prolonged blood inflow deprivation and the friction between the skin and the hard surfaces of a bed or a chair/wheelchair. Skin damage that initially presents as a red or a dark coloured patch can be further exacerbated by moisture. As little as a couple of hours of sustained pressure can lead to the development of pressure sore. If not treated and relieved from pressure, the small red irritation on the surface of the skin can soon become a blister and, thereafter, progress further into a painful, deep and nasty wound.
Pressure sores can occur in people of all ages during times of prolonged immobility and serious illnesses. Frail elderly people are especially at risk due to the presence of other health conditions, reduced mobility and overall deterioration in health. The development of serious pressure sore increases morbidity, reduces quality of life and presents a life threatening event.
