How does Rio Salon Scanning Laser X60 Hair Remover work

Rio Salon Laser Scanning X60 Hair Removal System Rio Salon Scanning Laser X60 Hair Remover works by sending laser beam to hair follicles with sufficient energy to destroy the hair roots without damaging any surrounding tissues. This process is known as photothermolysis. Results achieved, when using laser hair removers are permanent.

Lasers deliver an intense beam of laser light energy, which is absorbed by the pigment melanin in the follicle, causing the hair follicle to heat up. This laser heat destroys the papilla responsible for hair growth. If adequate heating is achieved, then the follicle is permanently disabled, resulting in a permanent reduction in hair growth.

Skin Types Suitable for Laser Hair Removal

Pigment melanin in the skin also absorbs the laser energy and limits the depth of penetration of the laser light into the skin. Using 808 nm wavelength enables hair removal treatment of fair skin types as well as relatively darker skin (i.e. olive skin).

Laser hair treatment is not suitable for Afro-Caribbean or black skin complexions.

Laser hair removal is also ineffective in removal of white or grey hair.

Rio Salon Laser Scanning X60 Hair Removal System attributes.Treated hairs do not always shed immediately, but over a period of time as the individual hair is released from the hair follicles. Laser hair removal is generally considered to be effective after 6 treatments over a 6 months period.

Laser hair removal treatment works effectively only on the hair in the active growth cycle (Anagen Phase - you can read about hair growth cycles below).  Additionally, in a single treatment, you will not destroy all actively growing hair follicles.

The above are the reasons, why you will need multiple treatments for long term permanent hair reduction.

You should repeat the treatment some 3 - 4 weeks later.  Further treatments should be planned at regular intervals over a period of 6 months.  It is recommended that you perform 6 treatment sessions over 6 month.

Treat each area only once per treatment session.

Hair Growth Cycle and effective use of Rio Salon Laser Hair Removal System

Human hair is made of proteins called keratins and grows in a continuous cyclic pattern of 3 phases.Hair Growth Cycle.

  1. Active growth phase:  Anagen phase
  2. Degradation phase: Catagen phase
  3. Resting phase: Telogen phase

Periods of growth that last between 2 - 7 years are followed by follicle degradation lasting between 10 - 20 days and thereafter a resting phase, which can last from 6 weeks to 6 months. Hair shedding is observed after the start of the next growth phase. On average, it is normal to shed 50 - 100 hairs daily. Most of the hair shed in this way will re-grow in time.

Laser hair removal is only effective, when applied to hair in the active growth phase. Hair and hair follicles in the degradation and resting phases need to progress to the active growth phase before laser removal treatment can be beneficial. This is why you will need multiple treatments for long term permanent hair reduction.

Additionally, not all actively growing hair follicles are destroyed in a single treatment. Whilst some hair follicles are destroyed, others are miniaturized into small and fine growing vellus hairs and other may become dormant for a while.

Successfully treated hairs will fall out within 7 - 10 days after treatment.

To effectively remove all hairs from an area on your body, you should repeat hair removal treatment 2 - 4 weeks later. Thereafter you should plan future treatments at regular intervals to remove hairs that are gradually coming into active growing phase.

Laser hair removal is generally considered to be effective after 6 treatments over a 6 months period.

Points to remember: Best results are achieved on hairs that have been shaved or trimmed to 1 - 2 mm lengths couple of days prior to hair removal treatment. The manufacturer also recommends that a patch test is performed 24 hours prior to treatment on the area to be treated.

Laser hair removal suitability: Laser hair removal system is not suitable for black skin complexions and grey or white hair.

Rio Scanning Laser X60 Hair Remover Questions and Answers

Q.: How can I best prepare my skin and my hair for hair removal with Salon Laser Hair Removal System?

You do not need to specially prepare your skin for laser hair removal and there are no skin creams or gels to use. It is best to shave or trim the hair to about 1 - 2 mm length couple of days prior to hair removal. Your skin should be cleaned and dried before treatment. The removal is most effective on pale skin, so you should not sunbathe or use fake tanning prior to hair removal.

Q.: Will I experience side effects?

Immediately after treatment you may see some mild redness and sometime a swelling may occur. These will fade over 24 hours. Hair removed successfully will be shed over the few days following the treatment. Please remember to perform the patch test 24 hours prior to using your laser hair remover to establish power level you should apply during the removal treatment.

Q.: Is there something to avoid after laser hair removal?

Avoid sun exposure and deep tanning for at least a week.  Avoid abrasive cleansers and skin peeling treatments. Do not swim in chlorinated water or use hot tub for 48 hours. Chlorinated water could make you itch.

Q.: What aftercare should I apply?

You can apply unperfumed soothing lotion, an ice pack or wet towel to cool the skin. Keep the area clean and if possible, use anti-bacterial soap twice daily. If you have treated underarm, do not use antiperspirants or deodorants for 2 - 3 days.

Q.: How often can I repeat the laser hair removal treatment?

As long as the hair follicle or surrounding skin is not red, sore or inflamed, you can repeat the treatment after 24 hours. Most people wait 3 - 4 weeks to see which hairs have been shed and to identify new growth. The follow up timing is not crucial. Simply choose the timing most convenient to you. However, avoid excessive treatment of the same area as this may lead to redness or swelling. The best is to treat each hair once in each treatment session.

Q.: How many hair removal treatments will I need?

Laser hair reduction is generally considered to be effective and permanent after 6 treatments. This varies from person to person as well as on the body area, hair density, hair colour and growth cycle. Dark hair on fair skin responds best to laser hair removal, but still may need several treatments for long term results. Some people need more treatments,  others need fewer treatments for satisfactory results. With each treatment you will notice some gradual thinning in treatment areas. Women who suffer excess hair due to male type of hormones are likely to need long term maintenance.

Q.: What areas can I treat?

Most body hair can be removed using Laser Hair removal. Most common are the face, under arms, legs, chest, back and bikini line. You must not use the laser hair remover on your eyebrows.

Q.: Can I use the laser hair removal system on sensitive skin?

Yes, you can. The laser beam energy focuses on the hair and does not affect surrounding skin.

Q.: What does the hair removal feel like? Is it painful?

Most people do not feel anything. Some people feel a mild 'pin prick' sensation that lasts fraction of a second.

Q.: Can I use other hair removal methods between laser hair removal treatments?

Methods such as plucking, tweezing, waxing or epilating are not suitable as you need the hair to be present in the follicles for the laser beam to destroy. Bleaching is also not suitable as it remove the hair pigment and renders laser ineffective. You can shave, use micro-dermabrasion discs or cream depilatories between treatments.
