Salt therapy - salt mine therapy - background

Created by nature over millions of years, the salty atmosphere of the deep rock salt mines and underground salt caves of continental Europe has been used for centuries to ease the symptoms of respiratory discomfort.

Accumulation of salt deposits can be traced to the geological Lower and Middle Miocene Epoch. The Miocene Epoch is an era that extends from about 23.03 to 5.332 million years ago. The salty sediments of the Miocene Epoch are deposited as the condensed salt layers deep underground.
